What We Do With Our Riches

2 Corinthians 8:11: Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

Read 2 Corinthians 8:1-15.

*Have you noticed that people get very quiet when you talk about money? A person*s use of his money is one of the most accurate measurements of his relationship to God. The rich young ruler, whose account is recorded in Mark 10:17-23, is the classic example. Eagerly running up to Jesus, he inquired, *What must I do to inherit eternal life?* He was certainly asking the right question of the right person. But when the Lord Jesus in essence put His hand on the man*s wallet, he went away sad because he had great possessions. Where does mastery of money start? It starts with giving yourself to God. *This they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God* (2 Cor. 8:5). A friend of mine gathers his family together once a year to discuss their missionary pledge. They put down how much Father makes, and they put down how much Mother makes from an occasional secretarial job. They put down how much the son makes, and how much the daughter makes from baby-sitting. Then they add up their fixed expenses—the house, car, doctor bills, insurance, tuition, clothes, and so on, including their 10 percent tithe. Then they go a step further and say, *Now, Lord, how much can we give to You?* And each year that I*ve known them, they*ve been giving a little more as a family because they give themselves to the Lord that way.

Small thought here. Assess your financial potential, whatever it is. Then bring it all before the Lord, dear friend, and say, Lord, how can I use my money for You because I want to give myself totally to you? *
